About the Foundation

The Marie Colvin Memorial Foundation was established to honor Marie’s legacy by supporting what she believed in and represented – the power of journalism to make a positive difference in the world and address the injustice of violence inflicted on innocent victims of war. Like Marie, the Foundation is dedicated to easing the suffering of those affected by conflict and to supporting the courageous journalists who risk their lives to bear witness to the atrocities of war.

The Foundation’s three main areas of focus are:

Journalistic Education

Humanitarian Aid

Global Awareness

Journalistic Education

We believe journalism plays a powerful role in exposing injustice, reforming policy, and strengthening democracy. We actively nurture the next generation of international correspondents by providing scholarships, lectures and travel opportunities to aspiring young journalists.

Humanitarian Aid

We work to alleviate human suffering, improve independence, and maintain human dignity by delivering emergency aid and medical services to victims of war and conflict, with special attention to women and children.

Global Awareness

We strive to increase public awareness of human rights violations and other atrocities taking place in the world and highlight difficulties faced by international correspondents who cover such conflicts through lectures, film screenings, podcasts, and panel discussions.

How We Help

The Marie Colvin Memorial Foundation provides funding in support of journalism, journalistic education, and humanitarian aid.

Here are just a few of the organizations we support:

INARA

Provides access to life-saving and life-altering medical assistance to children impacted by war.

The GroundTruth Project

Supports emerging journalists through field reporting that serves under-covered corners of the U.S. and around the world.

International Rescue Committee

Helps people whose lives and livelihoods are shattered by conflict and disaster to survive, recover and regain control of their futures.

Women’s Refugee Commission

Improves the lives and protects the rights of women, children and youth displaced by conflict and crisis.

Marie Colvin Center for International Reporting

Inspires, trains and nurtures the next generation of international correspondents at the Stony Brook University School of Journalism.

“I care about the experience of those most directly affected by war, those asked to fight and those who are just trying to survive.”
