Announcing the launch of the Marie Colvin Memorial Foundation

Syosset, NY - September 15, 2020

The family of slain journalist Marie Colvin today announced the launch of the Marie Colvin Memorial Foundation, established to honor Marie’s legacy by supporting what she believed in and represented - the power of journalism to make a positive difference in the world and to ease the suffering endured by the innocent victims of war, human rights violations and other atrocities.

The Foundation will be taking over the activities of the Marie Colvin Fund, which was established shortly after Marie’s murder in 2012 and has donated nearly $400,000 since its inception.

The Marie Colvin Memorial Foundation supports organizations which provide meaningful benefits in the fields of journalism, journalistic education, humanitarian aid and human rights, including: The Marie Colvin Center for International Reporting at the Stony Brook School of Journalism, The GroundTruth Project and Women’s Refugee Commission.

“I am honored to announce the launch of this foundation to help support the causes important to my sister, establish an archive of her work and provide resources to help aspiring journalists. Since the tragic news of Marie’s death my entire family has envisioned this foundation as a testament to Marie’s work and spirit.” - Cat Colvin, Marie’s sister

Cat Colvin will serve as President of the Marie Colvin Memorial Foundation. Funding will primarily come from donations by friends and supporters.

The first two events sponsored by the foundation will be online screenings and panel discussions of documentaries about Marie - Under the Wire and Bearing Witness.
